I'm pretty happy with the way things are working out lately. Earlier this month I got a raise at work. It was pretty awesome but also something I didn't know was going to happen. My company is pretty well-known for not giving raises very often, and if you do get one, it's usually like 1% or something negligible like that. A lot of people get bad reviews so they don't have to get raises. See, technically you only get a raise if you have a really good review or whatever, so when everyone is barely getting "meets expectations" then they don't have to give out raises. So imagine my surprise when I was called into my manager's office and told I would be getting a raise. It wasn't one of those measly 1% raises, either. My raise is the equivalent of if I had gotten a promotion, but I didn't actually get a promotion. I think they want to keep me where I'm at. I'm not complaining, though. This raise came at a really good time, too, because I've been thinking about getting a car recently, and now I'll be able to afford it more easily. I'm also going to have to do a car insurance comparison, though, because I'm not sure how much a newer model will raise my rates. It's not like I'm getting a sports car or anything, though. You know, I've actually thought about getting a sports car a few times in the past, but it was always one of those things where it's like I bet once the novelty wears off it's not really that exciting anymore. I try to be responsible with my money and I don't think buying a car to show off like that is responsible. When I buy a car I like to keep it for at least 10 years. I do know people like my friend Joe who will get a new car every 3 years. I've never understood that. I mean, I get that it's exciting to get a new car, but you haven't even finished paying off the first one and you get another one? I can't do that. So I think I'm going to spend some time online tomorrow looking at different cars to get an idea for what I want and then I'll probably go to try some out next week. I'm pretty slow to make a decision, though, so I might not have chosen one for another month or so. |
I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
